an easy happiness hack

What a week! Between flying home from Belize on Sunday night, my birthday on Monday, work, and birthday celebrations, I’ve been go-go-going all week! I’m not complaining though – it’s been a blast! I truly love how birthdays are an opportunity to spend time with the people who make you the happiest.

Speaking of being happy, I’ve been wanting to share an easy happiness hack that has made my mornings WAY easier. Short backstory: If you listen to podcasts, you’ve probably heard of Happier with Gretchen Rubin (If you haven’t, you should definitely check it out!!!). Anyway, a segment of each episode includes a happiness hack that can be easily incorporated into everyday life. Through listening to the podcast week after week, I couldn’t help but think of ways to make my own life just a little happier / easier.

my happiness hack

Organization is something I pride myself on; however, when organization becomes too organized, it can become a hassle. For example, before I incorporated my happiness hack into my daily life, I had a separate notebook for to-do lists, taking notes at work, my calendar, blog ideas, etc. I also had a separate bag for work, exercising, my wallet / purse items, etc.

Every morning I would find myself carrying 2-4 bags to the car, plus holding Guppy on a leash. I dreaded the walk down the apartment hallway to the garage each time. I had a purse, a work bag, maybe a workout bag, and God only knows what other things!

One day I finally asked myself, “why am I doing this?!” All of a sudden, the solution seemed so clear – it was time to consolidate. My consolidation started with ditching my to-do list notebook. I incorporated my work to-do lists into my work notebook and my personal to-do lists into the notes section in my phone. BAM! One whole notebook gone!

Next, I ditched my work bag and started putting my (one) work notebook and calendar into my purse. BAM! A whole bag out of the picture! I was on a roll!! The cherry on top was changing my old work bag into my new workout bag. It’s more durable and bigger than the bag I was previously using to tote around my workout gear.

Y’all, I can’t tell you how this simple, easy-breezy happiness hack has made my life, specifically my mornings, so much easier. Why did I wait so long to do it?!

What happiness hacks do you swear by? I’d love to hear!!

Lots of love – ked

  1. Yes! This is the reason I love my Mom On The Go Planner. I only have one other ‘scribble’ notebook outside of that, but otherwise, it’s the only thing I need. 🙂

    1. Christine – I’ve heard great things about the Mom On The Go Planners!! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    1. Sharon – I couldn’t agree more – calendars are HUGE happiness hack!! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. This is an awesome tip – consolidating has helped me out a lot too! I love organizing, but you’re right that you can get so organized to the point that it’s no longer helpful lol. I have been in the process of creating a master home/blog/business binder for myself over the past 2 weeks or so, and it has already boosted my happiness and daily productivity so much! It’s been another form of consolidation – getting all my schedules, to-do lists, and projects I want to keep track of together in one place instead of having them scattered all over our apartment. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

    1. Traci – a “life” binder sounds so amazing!! It’s great because all of your important things are in one place! That’s such a wonderful idea..and I love it’s already boosted your happiness AND productivity! Sounds like a double win to me!

  3. This is such a great post. I shared about decluttering today. It is incredible how much happier you can be just simply by consolidating things and having things organized around you!

    1. Mary Leigh – Great minds think alike!! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  4. Downsizing always feels good. 🙂 One tip I do is to take stock of my possessions every now and then and ask myself, “is this useful, beautiful, does this make me feel good?” and if not, get rid of it! Ahhhh yeah feels great. <3

    1. Jessie – That’s a GREAT tip! I could definitely benefit from this idea…especially with things in my bathroom (ie: makeup, toiletries, lotions, hair products, etc). Thanks for sharing!!
