Happy Friday! I’m a little behind on sharing the rest of my Italy adventures with you all (check out these posts for other Italy adventures!). One of my goals with ked got wed is to get caught up on sharing all of my 2016 travel adventures with you before the end of the year. Because of that, I have decided to do “Travel Thursday” posts! Not including today’s post (which was supposed to go up yesterday), there are two Thursdays left in the year. Here’s what I’m shooting for:
- Today, Friday, December 16: Italy – The Italian Coast
- Thursday, December 22: Italy – Rome
- Thursday, December 29: Brazil – Rio de Janeiro
Humor me and for the sake of “Travel Thursday”, let’s pretend like today is Thursday! Without further ado, let’s dive back into Italy!
After Tuscany, Oakley and I headed down south to Sorrento. We used Sorrento as our home base for traveling along the Italian coast. Our hotel was at the very top of a hill and had the most spectacular view!!
Most of our time in Sorrento was spent eating and drinking. We did A LOT of walking also! We were able to ride the ferry to Capri and the bus to Positano.
One thing that sticks out in my mind about Sorrento are the crepes! Some of the street vendors would make Nutella-filled crepes and they were oh-so-delicious!
Overall, Sorrento was a good place to stay on the coast. However, if we go back, I would be a-okay skipping Sorrento and heading straight to Capri or Positano!
Everything we read about Capri in the travel books made it seem like nothing more than a tourist trap. Despite that, I still insisted we make a stop there! Thank goodness we did, because it ended up being one of our favorite places on the coast! Don’t get me wrong, when we first got off of the ferry, there were SO.MANY.PEOPLE. It was overwhelming! But, once we pushed our way out of the crowd, it wasn’t bad at all!
We walked, walked, walked allllll the way up to the top of Capri. We found a restaurant that had a breathtaking view! Seriously!!
[Walking all the way up!!]
[This picture doesn’t do the view justice!]
We ate lunch, admired the view, chatted with our waiter, then kept exploring. We ended our time in Capri with a boat tour – it DEFINITELY didn’t disappoint!
[I love this goofy picture!]
Oakley’s brother and his wife stayed in Positano during a trip to Italy and had nothing but good things to say about it – because of that, Oakley and I knew we had to spend a day there. When we arrived, it was overcast and sprinkling. We didn’t let that slow us down though! It actually worked in our favor, because it kept away some of the crowds.
We ended up renting two chairs and spending the whole day at the beach! Swimming in the Mediterranean Ocean was one of my favorite experiences of our entire Italy trip! I can’t even explain how awesome it was to swim into the ocean and turn around to look at the view of Positano. SO COOL!!! Speaking of cool, the water was definitely chilly! But once you got used to it, it wasn’t so bad.
After we swam around for a little while, we ordered some white wine and chilled out while enjoying the view. It was such a relaxing day! We definitely needed some down time after all of the walking we had done the day before in Capri!
Oakley and I both loved our time on the Italian coast! Have you ever been? If so, I would love to hear about your adventures!
Lots of love – ked
