super bowl party prep

Y’all!!! It’s almost the Super Bowl!!! Raise your hand if you’re already looking forward to the yummy snacks and awesome commercials that are coming our way on Sunday {insert “girl raising hand” emoji}! As I’ve mentioned a few times on the blog, Oakley and I are hosting a Super Bowl party this year. I’m super excited about having a bunch of friends over and enjoying the game (aka commercials) with them.

decorations

Okay friends, let’s get serious here…people do not, let me repeat – DO NOT, go to a Super Bowl party to be cutesy. THIS is one of the main reasons why I decided to host a Super Bowl party instead of a Christmas or NYE party. While I absolutely love holiday parties, I didn’t have the time/energy (aka extra money) to throw one. I figured a Super Bowl party would be less maintenance in regards to prep and cost.

Since I’m going for a casual vibe, I want to keep the decorations low key and simple. I’ll decorate our table, write something “football-ish” on our chalkboard, and get a few football themed extras such as utensil holders, etc.

Check out this super cute table idea I found on Pinterest! I 100% plan on doing this!

food

While people don’t generally attend a super bowl party for the decorations, they DO go for the food – amiright?! I have some great ideas for food (all from Pinterest, duh) that I’m super excited about! Here’s what I’m thinking…

appetizers/snacks

I’m going to do a nacho bar (inspired by this) with my mom’s famous queso and lots of different toppings – I’m talking diced tomatoes, onions, guacamole, olives, jalapanos, sour cream, salsa, and anything else I can think of while I’m at the grocery store! I’ll set it up on our counter top so it’s separated from the other food that will be on our football-field-decorated-table. A bunch of friends have offered to bring food, so I’ll set up those dishes on the table.

entrees

This is the fun part – I’m going to do chicken and waffle sliders!

dessert

At first I was thinking of doing one dessert themed for each team, but that just seems like a lot of work for a low-key gathering. Now I’m considering ordering a big sheet cake!? HEB has really good cakes for a good price! I’m also thinking about telling anyone else who offers to bring food to bring something sweet. As you can tell, I’m really not sure yet what I’ll do for dessert…what do you think?

beverages

I’m going to make it super easy when it comes to beverages. I’ll buy a few cases of beer and some bottles of two buck chuck (Have you ever had Trader Joe’s two buck chuck?! It’s da bomb!). Besides that, I’m going to tell everyone it’s BYOB! This will really help us cut back on cost!

What are your Super Bowl plans? Is there anything I’m forgetting for our party? Please share in the comments below!

Lots of love – ked

  1. I’ve never been a fan of football… *hides in the corner*. 😉 But I would love to attend a Super Bowl party just for the food and good time, they just sound like so much fun. Your nacho bar sounds delicious and those sliders *drool*.

    1. Chantal – Hahaha! In my opinion, a Super Bowl party is more about food and friends than football, anyway! And I would def recommend the chicken and waffle sliders – they were so easy AND a huge hit!!

    1. Cynthia – Yay for up-sizing! My hubby and I recently started looking for a house – anything bigger than our 1-bedroom apartment will feel like a mansion! I’m so glad you found the ideas pin worthy!! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
